Education
From 2018 to 2023, RISE-Health researchers led 21 doctoral programmes and 30 master’s programmes. During this period, the doctoral programmes led by RISE-Health researchers had 3109 enrolments (37 PhD candidates enrolled on average per course/year) and a total of 348 doctorates completed. Master’s programmes had 4974 enrolments (31 students on average per programme/year) and a total of 1695 completed master’s programmes.
Despite the fact that some of these courses have a more multi-, inter- or transdisciplinary focus (e.g., Doctoral Programme in Forensic Sciences; Doctoral Programme in Gerontology and Geriatrics; Master’s Degree in Medical Informatics), the courses led by RISE-Health researchers have been outstanding in educating health professionals, including medical doctors, enrolling more than 1,000 medical doctors in total.
In addition to leading degree awarding courses, RISE-Health researchers have also led more than 600 continuing education classroom-based and/or e-learning in the areas of interest to RISE-Health, involving, in total, more than 65,000 enrolled students from 26 nationalities, of which nearly 15% were medical doctors.
The focus on internationalisation has also been intensifying in the degree awarding courses led by RISE-Health researchers. For example, from the 1945 students enrolled in the 19 doctoral and master’s programmes led by RISE-Health researchers whose degree is awarded by the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto, 439 (23%) had other nationalities (n=25). Most of these international students are nationals from CPLP countries (n=385, 20%), particularly from Brazil (n=326, 17%).
