An expert from the country’s largest research unit has taken on a role linked to Wellbeing and Institutional Quality.
Guilhermina Rego, a researcher at RISE-Health, recently took up her post as Vice-Rector of the University of Porto.
At the official inauguration ceremony for Pedro Nuno Teixeira as the 21st Rector of the University of Porto (U.Porto), Guilhermina Rego was appointed to head the Well-being and Institutional Quality department.
Over the next four years, Professor Rego, who is also a full professor at the University of Porto’s Faculty of Medicine (FMUP), will promote a healthier and more motivating working environment for all members of the University, with a particular focus on people, as well as greater efficiency and streamlining of institutional decision-making processes. She will also be responsible for overseeing the Social Services (SASUP) and the Sports Centre (CDUP-UP) at U.Porto.
At FMUP, home to the country’s largest research unit, Guilhermina Rego is director of the Master’s programme in Bioethics and the lecturer in charge of the Postgraduate Course in Health Policy, Administration and Evaluation. Alongside these roles, she is a member of the Ethics Committee of RISE-Health and FMUP.
Outside academia, she is a founding member of the Portuguese Association of Bioethics and has previously held public office, notably, between 2009 and 2013, as a councillor responsible for Knowledge and Social Cohesion at Porto City Council, and as chair of the Board of Trustees of the Porto Social Foundation and the Science and Development Foundation.
From 2013 to 2017, she was Deputy Mayor of Porto and, from 2017 to 2020, she was Chair of the Board of Directors of the APDL (Port Authority of the Douro, Leixões and Viana do Castelo).
