News / RISE-Health Debuts at the University of Porto Exhibition with Activities Focused on Science
The RISE-Health Research Unit introduced young students to the world of science.
RISE-Health participated for the first time in the University of Porto Exhibition, an initiative that presents the educational programs offered by the University of Porto (UP), showcasing the 15 faculties and research centres based at UPorto.
At the 23rd edition of the event, held from 19 and 22 February at the Multiusos de Gondomar, the Research Unit challenged young secondary school students to ‘put on their lab coats’ and take their first steps into the world of research. Through a series of activities developed by researchers Sara Pinto, Andreia Teixeira, Luísa Castro, Fábio Trindade, Marta Gonçalves, Joana Marques, Beatriz Sousa Reis and Inês Ferreira Silva (RISE-Health/FMUP), visitors to the UP Exhibition were able to learn about RISE-Health’s latest research projects in an interactive way.
Experts Lara Marques, Luís Jacinto, Ana Castro, Sara Reis, Nuno Vale, Inês Alencastre and Isabel Brandão were present on the third day of the UPorto Exhibition, sharing the impact of personalised medicine, the challenges of chronic kidney disease and everyday life in the laboratory.
On the last day of the event, Francisca Saraiva, Janete Santos, and Sílvia Sousa revealed what a clinical trial is, and Bárbara Costa, together with Nuno Vale (RISE-Health/FMUP), shared the latest advances in the field of personalised medicine.
The Research Unit closed its debut at the University of Porto Exhibition with a speech by Fernando Schmitt, director of the RISE-Health Research Unit (RISE-Health/FMUP), who, on the UPorto Exhibition stage, addressed the development of personalised cancer treatments and the importance of precision medicine.
