News / Eleven Researchers from RISE-Health are Global Leaders in their Field
The ScholarGPS Rankings for 2025 distinguish eleven RISE-Health researchers among the world’s top scientists over the past five years.
The RISE-Health Research Unit has a strong presence in the ScholarGPS® Rankings of Scholars and Institutions, a global benchmarking system that evaluates millions of researchers, institutions and countries based on productivity (publications), impact (citations) and quality (h-index) of scientific work.
In the ‘Top Scholars by Country – Portugal’ ranking, João Pedro Ferreira (28th position) and Nuno Vale (31st position), principal investigators at RISE-Health@RISE/FMUP, are among the top 40 best researchers in the country over the last five years, a list that also includes Fernando Schmitt, director of the Research Unit, in 165th place. Specialists Guilherme Macedo (62nd position), Óscar Ribeiro (208th position), Carlos Sequeira (296th position), principal investigators at RISE-Health, are also included in the ranking focused on the Portuguese context. The list also highlights Fernando Magro, Luísa Castro, Bernardo Sousa-Pinto (RISE-Health@RISE/FMUP), Maria José Sá (RISE-Health/UFP) and Laetita Teixeira (RISE-Health@RISE/ICBAS-UP).
In the ‘Highly Ranked Scholars’ list, which distinguishes the most productive researchers (by number of publications) whose work demonstrates exceptional impact (citations) and remarkable quality (h-index), João Pedro Ferreira and Nuno Vale also feature, this time in the disciplines of “Cardiology” and ‘Information Sciences,’ respectively.
It should be noted that, again this year, the Research Unit had 13 researchers on the ‘World’s Top 2% Scientists list’, a list developed by researchers at Stanford University (USA) and published by the prestigious publisher Elsevier.
