News / RISE-Health Researcher Distinguished with Banco Carregosa/SRNOM 2025 Award
Award-winning research project focuses on the study and diagnosis of pulmonary fibrosis.
Hélder Novais e Bastos (RISE-Health/FMUP) was presented with the Banco Carregosa/SRNOM 2025 Award for his project ‘Fibrotic Interstitial lung diseases: Reclassification through Environmental and Genetic Studies (FIREGENS)’, a national initiative aimed at individuals or legal entities with relevant projects related to clinical research.
The research project led by the researcher from the RISE-Health Research Unit aims to ‘study and map the causes of pulmonary fibrosis at a national level, develop new diagnostic and prognostic tools, and propose strategies for reclassifying diffuse fibrotic lung diseases,’ explains the researcher on LinkedIn.
On the same platform, the specialist emphasises that ‘this recognition should be extended to a multidisciplinary and multi-institutional team of doctors and researchers from the São João Hospital, the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto, RISE-HEALTH and i3S’.
It is worth remembering that this is not the first time that a RISE-Health researcher has received the Banco Carregosa/SRNOM Award. In 2023, researcher Miguel Mascarenhas (RISE-Health/FMUP) was also awarded this distinction and recognised for his work in developing pioneering Artificial Intelligence technology in Gastroenterology for identifying precursors of anal cancer in high-resolution anoscopy.
The Banco Carregosa/SRNOM Award is a national distinction for individuals or legal entities with relevant projects in the field of clinical research, totalling €25,000 (€20,000 for the winning project and €5,000 for two honourable mentions).
