RISE Students Day “Paves the Way” to a Scientific Future for Young Researchers

The event featured presentations by experts in scientific careers.

On 25 July, the RISE-Health Research Unit and its PhD Student Committee organised the first edition of RISE Students Day, an initiative that promoted scientific communication and critical thinking.

Under the motto ‘Building Science, Sharing the Future’, the event ‘opened doors’ to networking through ‘Poster Bingo: Discover & Connect!’, an activity that allowed young researchers to showcase their scientific work in a dynamic way.

The first RISE Students Day featured Pedro Resende, co-founder of Chaperone, an online platform created to boost the careers of scientists and academics. During his speech, he outlined the first steps that researchers from the RISE-Health PhD Student Committee can take to leverage their scientific and professional careers.

Altamiro da Costa Pereira, director of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP), highlighted the importance of collaboration between young researchers for the growth of RISE-Health, sharing his appreciation for the strong participation in the initiative.

Elisa Keating, leader of Thematic Line 7 – Community Care & Prevention (RISE-Health@RISE/FMUP), spoke on behalf of Fernando Schmitt, director of the research unit, about the role that the RISE-Health PhD Student Committee (CED RISE-Health) plays in bringing together all the institutions that make up the research unit.

During her speech, Lara Fonseca highlighted the role that CED RISE-Health aims to play in training young researchers and in their professional growth, ‘overcoming all geographical challenges’ they encounter in a Research Unit that has more than 1,300 researchers spread across the country.
