The distinction was awarded by Sigma Europe on 21 May
On 21 May, RISE-Health researcher Francisco Sampaio (RISE-Health@RISE/ESEP) was awarded the Sigma Europe Nursing Excellence in Research 2025 distinction, a prize that recognises the scientific excellence of the work carried out by the lecturer at the Porto School of Nursing (ESEP).
The specialist is a member of the board of the Portuguese Society of Mental Health Nursing and is part of the Regional Mental Health Coordination of the North. Between 2020 and 2023, he held the position of President of the College of Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing of the Order of Nurses.
As a researcher, Francisco Sampaio, who is part of the research group ‘Self-Care and Adaptation to Illness’, based at RISE-Health, and is Action Chair of COST Action ‘Climate Change Impacts on Mental Health in Europe (CliMent)’, has published around 100 peer-reviewed scientific articles, three books, and almost 50 book chapters.
It should be noted that Sigma Theta Tau International Honour Society of Nursing, founded in 1922, has over 100,000 active members and 600 chapters in educational institutions and health partners on all continents, making it the second largest nursing organisation in the world.
