News / RISE-Health ‘Opens Doors’ to Cardiology Research for Young Students
The initiative took place at the University of Beira Interior and focussed on the human body.
The Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Beira Interior (FCS-UBI) hosted the initiative ‘From the Laboratory to the Community and Back to the Laboratory’ with the participation of RISE-Health researchers, which enabled 50 third cycle students from various regions of the country to learn more about the human body and, in particular, the heart.
During the activity, which took place between 7 and 9 April, the young students had the opportunity to microscopically observe the myocardium, desiccate a heart and discuss cardiovascular prevention and health literacy.
‘From the Laboratory to the Community and Back to the Laboratory’, coordinated by Eduardo Cavaco and Catarina Ferreira (RISE-Health/UBI), is part of a series of STEAM Winter University initiatives organised by the University of Beira Interior (UBI).
The activity is funded by a project called UBImpulso, Green and Sustainable Growth in a Digital World, which includes the STEAM Youth Impulse Programme, which aims to promote and support initiatives aimed exclusively at increasing the higher education of young people in the areas of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics), in conjunction with the needs emerging in the labour markets.
