potencial nova solu\u00e7\u00e3o para o <em>Streptococcus do Grupo B<\/em>, bact\u00e9ria que coloniza o trato intestinal e genital que, quando transmitida ao beb\u00e9 durante o parto, pode resultar no desenvolvimento de doen\u00e7as como meningite ou pneumonia neonatal, s\u00e9psis e, em casos mais graves, provocar a morte.<\/p><p>\u201cA infe\u00e7\u00e3o invasiva neonatal por <em>Streptococcus do Grupo B<\/em> continua a ser uma das principais causas de mortalidade e comprometimento neurodesenvolvimental a longo prazo, afetando processos cr\u00edticos de matura\u00e7\u00e3o cerebral, cogni\u00e7\u00e3o e comportamento\u201d, vincam os especialistas, explicando que \u201ca s\u00e9psis \u00e9 uma s\u00edndrome cl\u00ednica de disfun\u00e7\u00e3o de \u00f3rg\u00e3os e uma das principais causas de mortalidade neonatal, respons\u00e1vel por 15 % de todas as mortes\u201d.<\/p><p>No estudo, realizado em animais de laborat\u00f3rio e publicado na revista cient\u00edfica <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S1567576925021022?via%3Dihub\"><em>International Immunopharmacology<\/em><\/a><em>,\u00a0 <\/em>a equipa de investigadores destaca que \u201ca <em>Streptococcus do Grupo B<\/em> coloniza o trato genital inferior de at\u00e9 40 % das mulheres gr\u00e1vidas, representando um risco significativo de infe\u00e7\u00e3o para os beb\u00e9s ao longo de todo o per\u00edodo perinatal. Al\u00e9m disso, cerca de metade dos rec\u00e9m-nascidos que sobrevivem \u00e0 infe\u00e7\u00e3o por esta bact\u00e9ria apresentam defici\u00eancias no desenvolvimento neurol\u00f3gico e sequelas neurol\u00f3gicas permanentes, incluindo defici\u00eancias motoras, de aprendizagem e socioemocionais\u201d.<\/p><p>Atualmente, a infe\u00e7\u00e3o pelo <em>Streptococcus do Grupo B<\/em> \u00e9 diagnosticada atrav\u00e9s de culturas microbiol\u00f3gicas, tanto no rastreio materno como quando existe suspeita de s\u00e9psis neonatal. No entanto, estes m\u00e9todos permitem identificar a presen\u00e7a da bact\u00e9ria, mas n\u00e3o avaliam o impacto precoce da infe\u00e7\u00e3o no c\u00e9rebro em desenvolvimento, nem o risco de sequelas neurol\u00f3gicas a longo prazo. \u00a0O estudo liderado por Laura Oliveira (RISE-Health\/ICBAS-UP), identificou o recetor P2X7 como uma potencial nova solu\u00e7\u00e3o para \u00a0o desenvolvimento de estrat\u00e9gias terap\u00eauticas contra a infe\u00e7\u00e3o neonatal.<\/p><p>\u201cA ativa\u00e7\u00e3o precoce do \u00a0recetor P2X7R permite modular a resposta neuroimune no momento da infe\u00e7\u00e3o, reduzindo a neuroinflama\u00e7\u00e3o patol\u00f3gica e protegendo o c\u00e9rebro em neurodesenvolvimento com um efeito longitudinal ben\u00e9fico nos sobreviventes desta infe\u00e7\u00e3o, prevenindo os\u00a0 d\u00e9fices cognitivos e o perfil ansioso observado nos modelos animais\u201d, explica Laura Oliveira, acrescentando que \u201ceste estudo permitiu alavancar a identifica\u00e7\u00e3o de um potencial novo biomarcador para identifica\u00e7\u00e3o precoce do dano neuronal em circunst\u00e2ncias de s\u00e9psis neonatal\u201d.<\/p><p>Segundo a especialista da RISE-Health, o combate \u00e0 infe\u00e7\u00e3o pelo <em>Streptococcus do Grupo B<\/em> \u201cpassa tamb\u00e9m pelo desenvolvimento de novas vacinas eficazes\u201d, destacando que \u201co desenvolvimento de novos biomarcadores poder\u00e1 constituir uma abordagem complementar para reduzir o impacto desta infe\u00e7\u00e3o no c\u00e9rebro em desenvolvimento\u201d.<\/p><p>O artigo \u201cEarly P2X7 receptor activation mitigates neonatal group B Streptococcus infection severity and long-term neurodevelopmental impairment\u201d conta com Laura Oliveira (RISE-Health\/ICBAS-UP), Sales Fialho, Irina Amorim e Paula Ferreira (ICBAS-UP) como autores.
