Fernando Magro

Fernando Magro is a researcher at CINTESIS, Visiting Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP), Director of Clinical Pharmacology, and a gastroenterologist at the University Hospital Center of São João (CHUSJ). He studied Medicine and obtained his doctorate from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP).

In 2023, he was elected president of the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organization, becoming the first Portuguese to run for and win this position.

He is the founder and honorary member of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Study Group (GEDII), a member of the International Organization for the Study of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IOIBD), and Associate Editor of the United European Gastroenterology Journal (UEG Journal).

In research, his fields of interest include inflammatory bowel diseases.
